Which nationwide consumer credit reporting company should I get my free report from?

It’s my first time to aquire about my credit report and I’m doing it online. I was asked which nationwide consumer credit reporting company I wanted to request my report from and I was wondering which I should choose. My options are Experian, Equifax, and Transunion. I could really use some input. Thanks!

You should get it from ALL THREE. Each agency is different ans not all of them have the same stuff. One agency might have all good stuff and another may have one negative thing or mistakes. Always check all three because when applying for credit you never know which company the creditor pulls from. Keep up with all three.

Go to This is the official site. You are entitled to a report from ALL THREE companies. You do not have to pick out just one. I just finished mine a couple of weeks ago. Watch the pages at each site(It will send you to each one individually to get each report) and follow instructions carefully. Each time you get a report, it will take you back to annualcreditreport site for the next one.

I am assuming you are using annualcreditreport.com. All three will all have pretty much the same information in their report. Over the course of the year, you should check all three. Every four or five months check a different one. That said, I always use Experian (and use their credit monitoring service).

You really do need to get all three. Two of the three credit reports reported me as deceased, but the first one I pulled up didn’t. It sucks, but at least now I can fix it.
My mortgage banker at WellsFargo suggested I go to.

I agree that you should get all three…however I wouldnt do it all at once. You should spread them out throughout the year.

You can order a free credit report every four months. (One from one of the three firms every four months).

It is the best way I know to get a clear view of your financial standing.

You definitely need all three as each credit reporting agency sources information from different creditors. As a result, you can have drastically different credit scores across each of the three bureaus.

You also may want to consider signing up for an ongoing
credit monitoring service since your credit reports are constantly changing as you interact with financial institutions, service providers, etc.

Most services will give you a free credit report for signing up for their credit monitoring service. The ongoing costs vary by provider but know what is on your credit report can literally save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars when you go to borrow money or get any type of loan because the better your credit the better terms you will receive.

I personally use FreeCreditReport.com which is a division of Experian (the biggest of the three main credit bureaus) but also allows you to access information from TransUnion and Equifax. They have a great website that is really easy to use and informative. You can learn more about them here:

The US Government has mandated that the three major credit bureaus offer the service to everyone in the United States once each year. The name of this site is.

Since it is government mandated it requires a whole host of hoops to jump through. You do not actually get your credit scores, and it can take 7-10 days to receive the information. All in all not very consumer friendly. Guess that is what happens when a big company is required to do something they do not want to do.

Here is how I got my Credit Report and Score from all 3 bureaus for free.

I went to and signed up for their service.

It took like 3 minutes! They give you 7 Days for Free to try the service.

So I just canceled the next day after printing out everything I needed.

Easy and Free.
