I agree with the person above. You should never let someone else do what you are capable of handling let alone pay them for that service. If you do not feel you can handle this action required I would seek one that is inline with your faith and practice and how God handles finacial matters. Look at Dave Ramsey he has some great programs to help out the credit challenged America also Crown Finacial Ministries is another one.
Consumer Credit Counseling Services: . These are legit non-profit companies that offer free credit counseling. They can look at your finances and advise you how to set up budgets etc. They also have a debt management plan if you qualify.
They are not going to offer any shortcut or magic formula to make your debt disappear. But they will help you deal with paying off your debt.

Seriously, the credit counseling services do not do anything for you that you cannot do yourself. And, they charge you a fee for the privilege.
If you are really overwhelmed with credit card or other unsecured debt, do exactly what the counseling services do. Call them and tell them your situation. The lenders would rather work with you then send you to collections where they lose money.
If the first person you talk to does not help, ask to talk to their supervisor. If company A refuses to help, talk to company B.
Do not pay someone to do something that you can do yourself.
