Sometimes when a cashier has trouble with my credit card, they’ll scan it through a plastic bag. Why?

Lately my credit/debit card has been giving cashiers trouble. Alot of them can get it accepted if they put the card inside a plastic bag and then slide it through. My friends and I were trying to figure out what exactly that accomplishes, and why someone would have tried it to begin with…

Doing this gets rid of the scratches that may have been on your card in the first place, it creates a new card effect, therfore making it work.

guest there are some wheels in the read that turn as the card goes through them, and in your case card got skippery so they do not turn and plastic bag improves the friction.
