Go with Visa. Mastercard quite often accompanies fees you have to pay when using it on certain websites and businesses. Visa uses the same clearing as the Visa Debit card, so you can use your Visa almost anywhere. Unless ofcourse the Mastercard version has a lower APR.
Yeah, look for the lowest APR
Though, Mastercard is accepted in more places than Visa and is easier to use abroad
I’ve never seen a merchant that accepted one card and not the other. I’d get whichever one offers the best terms.
i would avoid credit cards altogether, as they dont actually provide any benefit.
If you are going to pay them both off in full each month, then it doesn’t matter which one.
If you are not then the lowest % rate is better I assume.
Either one is just as good as the other. I have found very, very few places that will only take one or the other and they are usually little mom and pop type places. I have a Visa credit card and check card and two Mastercard credit cards. Used all of them tons of times. And don’t listen to to those morons telling you not to get one at all. If you use it right then you will have no trouble. I use the cards for everything. I buy my gas and pay my bills, buy groceries and anything else I can. I pay the card off when the bill comes. Since I pay the balance in full I do not pay them a dime and I have rewards cards so they actually pay me to use them. If you are going to get one or the other then be smart about it and do not carry a balance. Never pay the minimum.
Add: And if you pay in full every month the the interest rate does not matter since you will not have a balance to owe interest on. Make sure you get one with no fees (ie Annual Fee).
As far as I am aware there is no real difference. The interest rates are usually set by the card provider, not by Visa or Mastercard, so your provider will probably set the same interest rate for both. I have never seen a business that takes 1 but no the other.
And the people who say you don’t need a credit card are wrong. For purchases over £100 the credit card company is jointly responsible with the seller under sale of goods legislation. This means that if you order something that does not arrive or which is faulty then the credit card company must refund you if the seller does not.
This is fantastic protection because you are protected if a company you deal with goes bust.
You are not guaranteed to get the same protection with Debit cards, even ones with a Visa logo.
My only advice would be that credit cards are a very expensive way to borrow, so pay it off in full each month.
If you feel you must have a credit care, just get either one. You really don’t need two. Unless you pay off the entire amount every month .You would be would making a monthly payment on both. You can apply that extra amount to the one card you are using. Get the one with the lowest interest rate if you you intrnd to carry a balance. Also opening two credit cards at the same time could affect your credit score.
They are almost the same. It all depends if you do a lot of travelling because Visa and MasterCard have different market shares depending what country you visit. It sounds like where you live Visa and MasterCard are accepted equally. In that case I would choose the Visa or MasterCard with the best deal. After you receive your credit card the next time you need a credit card you could consider getting a card opposite of what you already have (Visa then MasterCard and vice versa). I hope this answers your question.
