I’m trying to increse my credit score, should I keep my student loan in deferment?

student loan deferment
Katrina D asked:

I have a poor credit score from when I was younger and very stupid with my credit cards, I’m in the process of rebuilding it by settling the old acounts, and using new credit cards alot better. I have a student loan for about $6000 that is currently defered because I’m back in school. Is this helping or hurting my credit? Is it better to start paying it or leave it alone?

Doctor Deth Says:

the balance will keep increasing due to interest so that won’t really help your score any

well if you are in school and its in deferrment it will not negatively affect your credit at all. Just remember that interest is accumulating for future payments but you will be OK. This will not affect your credit.

You can improve your credit score with knowledge, some time, some effort and not a lot of money. Start by learning the credit laws in the United States. The big one that will help you is that credititems. If they can’t prove it’s correct or don’t respond in time, the items must be removed.
