How long does it take for IRS to send out the homebuyer tax credit?

Homebuyer tax credit
vaiN_girL asked:

I amended my tax credit since I filed my income tax early this year. I sent the form 1st week of April and until now I don’t have the $8000 yet. I’m just wondering if they will send any notice that it will just be delayed or at least they received my amendment. Any ideas?

Normally IRS takes 8 to 12 weeks.
After 10 weeks, you can call IRS and enquire.

The normal processing window for amended returns is 8 to 12 weeks. This year because of the heavy load due to the FTHBC it’s running 12 to 16 weeks. I wouldn’t bother calling the IRS until the middle of July.

OK, amendments usually take longer up to 12 weeks.
You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 they should be able to help.
For the future you can try, this is an online tax Service i’ve used and they are helpful at answering my question,
You can check on when your refund will be released by clicking on the Where’s My Refund? Link at,,id=96596,00.html
Good Luck :-)

I am in the same situation… filed April 30th for my 8,000 first time home buyers credit. I amended my 2008 taxes using form 1040x and 5405. I called the IRS yesterday, they have no record of my amended form. The guy on the phone said, that its, “probably sitting in a file waiting for someone to pick it up and process it.” Ridiculous. Let me know if you find out anything else.

My son filed his Feb 20 they received it Feb 24 it also sat in file and we were told to call back at 12 weeks at 12 weeks we were told to expect a letter asking to send proof of the sale or a check. We got the letter at 15 weeks asking to send final HUD closing papers and copy of the grant deed. Now we are told it can take another 60 days from when they receive the proof

Same boat here too. I filled my amended return on april 23. I called them and after waiting an hour I spoke with someone who said i must wait 8-12 weeks. I explained to her that it was eight weeks and she said to “wait more” She showed no record of receiving the amended paper work. Unreal, in today’s technology we get this kind of service.
