cosaxteacher Says:

Contact the credit bureau(s). If you have a credit score in front of you, it should have contact information and even say, “To dispute a credit reporting contact:xxxxx”. If not, look up the three credit bureaus and their websites tell you how to dispute.

frugernity Says:

Check with the credit reporting company that is reporting the misinformation. Each has its own procedures.

You can get a free report once per year att annualcreditreport.gov and it will tell you on the report how to dispute.

Dave O Says:

call the company that placed the note on there, or call one of the three credit agencies that make up your credit report, and if that fails, call a lawyer

"Marian" the Librarian Says:

There should be a number you can call. If it isn’t on the report, check where you got it from (Internet site, etc) for an email or phone number.

Yvonne Says:

Contact the credit agency that the report is from. You will have to have proof that you took care of the “bad credit” that is listed and when. If you can do this it has to be removed

fuchsia_52 Says:

You must make your dispute directly to the credit reporting agency.

You can contact the bureaus at:

(800) 685-1111
(800) 997-2493 for residents of Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Vermont

Experian (formerly TRW Information Systems, Inc.)
P.O. Box 2104
Allen, TX 75013-2104

i just did it this morning!

go to freecreditreport.com

you can view experian and they allow you to dispute an item on the credit report.. you have to give credit card info but you can cancel before 30 days and it is free.

or you can go to annualcreditreport.com
This site is federally mandated to be completely free, but you can only get your report once per year. You can do disputes there.

I didn’t like the process of contacting the bureau’s individually, it seemed like a lot of work…you can try it though

Those should be the best ways, and are free. However, my time is valuable, and I found it much easier to do through, which costs something (I forget how much), but made the disputes easier for me. It also gave me a more detailed analysis of my score and stuff, as I recall.
