How do I get companies to correct the disputes on credit report?

Credit Disputes
asked:

I worked with an attorney and we settlled all accounts so I know all are paid . But the companies haven’t removed the rating. How can I personally dispute these. It would help to have a book or something to go by so I can proceed as quickly as possible. serious answers only please. Don’t guess, thanks.

Continue to write letters. Make sure you make a copy of everything you send to them. Also write down names and times of the people you talk to. Send letters to the credit bureaus. The companies have 30 days to respond. If they don’t, then it must be removed. Specify to the credit bureau that you want your credit updated and status changed. It may take a lot of time but keep at it. Persistance is the key.

Settling an account doesn’t remove your payment history. It just reduces the balance owed to zero. And even then it may state “balance paid in full for less than amount owed.” This is a derogatory remark.

Pull your free credit, , and review each item. If you paid your accounts off, then you have lost your leverage to get these companies to change their remarks. Still, it might be worth the effort. You will need to contact each account by phone and perhaps written correspondence. Ask the precisely what you are looking for and suggest a resolution.

Best of luck.

When the accounts are settled, the credit companies will update it and reflect it as settled…if it’s not showing that…it can take some time to reflect (30-60 days)…the credit agencies also have a dispute section online that you can go through and have them reflect your current status.

This all depends on how long ago you settled this debt. first, you will have those accounts on your report for 7 years. this is part of your credit history, once you have paid them off they will all read zero balance and debt satisfied. second, if you have only paid these off in less than 6 months then they will still be considered negative reporting on your credit report. all accounts must be cleared for 6 months before they are ignored by people reviewing your credit report. if you have the recipts for the payments to these companies and they are still reporting you as delinquent on payments then you can file with the credit bureas to dispute this. this can take time and possibly that lawyer of yours again as well.
