It sounds like you got hit with the "default rate". The newest trick of credit card companies is to raise your interest rate to the "default rate" if you are late on any payments to any creditor. I don't know what company you got the card from but the other answerer was correct you need to contact the credit card company themselves directly. Most of those companies do what you can simply do yourself only they charge an exorbitant fee for the service. If the company refuses to lower the rate to something resembling a reasonable rate then your best bet is to keep that account open but shred the card. Closing the account will negatively effect your credit score but if you use the card at that rate that is fiscal insanity. Every time I have had an issue with a credit card company, store credit, or revolving credit lines terms I call the company and tell them I will take my business elsewhere. Remember they make money 2-3% from the merchant every time you use a Visa, M/C, AMEX or Discover card. So unless you missed a payment somewhere there is no reason they should not lower the rate.

Calling the credit card company and asking for a lower rate is about the best you can do.

If you don't even use the credit card, why do you care what the interest rate is? Even at a lower rate it's suicide to actually use these cards for credit.
