Can I sue a bank for failure to credit a deposit i made?

credit failure
Kymo asked:

I deposited 500 dollars to a bank, directly at the counter. Hadn’t I notice the unchanged in my balance I wouldn’t have known about this at all. This has been going on for a month. When I ask the worker at the bank if I can have the number to the people he calls to speak about this problem he refuses to give me the number.

Additional Details
I have a receipt and no I did not previously owe the bank money or anything.

I spoke to the manager.

What actions can I take?

PJ Says:

No. You can ask them to make it right and take off any charges you incurred due to their mistake, but this isn’t something you can sue over. You can report the worker to bank management. Call an account manager and speak to them about this.

Possum Says:

When you took the receipt in and showed the manager, did they add it to your account? If they didn’t, you could try to call the corporate office and complain to them or talk to a lawyer.

If this is a recurring problem, pull all your money out and go to another bank.

Yes you can sue them. I would contact the branch manager and if that doesnt work contact the company head quarters.
Make several copies of the receipt. Show the manager a COPY of the receipt and keep the original at home (in case they try to take it from you and keep it or misplace it).
If that doesnt work. I suggest taking a copy of your bank statement and the receipt to small claims court. Go to your local court and file a small claims action (you do not need a lawyer) against the bank. Then bring all that evidence to court with you.

You will most likely win the money. Once you get your money back I suggest you change banks. Right now I would keep the account open but open an account with a totally different bank or credit union near you. start using the new account and dont deposit money into the old account.
Also you can ask for tips from the new bank’s manager about what they would do in your situation. They may know things that regular people dont. Like what other evidence you should get to prove the money was not deposited.
