Can I get grandfathered to the 2009 1st time homebuyer tax credit from the 2008?

Homebuyer tax credit
scubastang21 asked:

I closed on a house Dec 29th 2008 and qualify for the 1st time homebuyer tax credit. I thought at the time they were abolishing the credit at the end of 2008 but instead they sweetened the deal by upping it $500 and allowing you not to repay the credit. Is there any way to get the 2009 deal even though I closed in 2008???

No, there are strict time limits.

No.

To get the new $8000 credit, you must have closed between 1/1/09 and 11/30/09. There are no exceptions.

The original $7500 was supposed to go through 6/30/09.

if you qualified for the 2008 credit you can amend your 2008 return
was there a deadline for 2008? there is for 2009, Nov. 30 and since you closed so late, Dec. 29, I am not sure you are eligible
