Can a credit card debt that is unpaid not appear on all three credit reports?
I have had a collection agency call me about a credit card debt where the first delinquency date was supposed to be September of 2004. I don’t remember the debt and it doesn’t appear on any of my three credit reports as I have just requested and reviewed all three. Is it possible to have a delinquent credit card debt from a major bank that doesn’t appear on all three of your credit reports?

It may be someone else’s debt. A lot of time a junk debt collector will buy a debt and not have all info so they just start to try to get people with the same name and in the same city.
There are a couple of important factors with this.
1-It is true that a debt can appear on one CRA or all three. Each company has to apply and be approved by each CRA to report. They also have to pay. A lot of companies only report to one.
2-If it is not on any that is good and leads me to believe even more that it may not be your debt.
3-This one is important–If this is from Sept 04, it is almost certainly out of Statute of Limitations and is not even legally collectible. Check here to check the SOL for your state.
They can try to collect, they can even threaten you. they can try to sue you if they wanted to but all you have to do is defend youself and let them know you are aware the debt is past the SOL and not collectible. Expect them to lie.. try to confuse you etc. Don’t buy it. If they try to sue (which is HIGHLY unlikely) go to court, show the judge the SOL and bam.. case dropped. They won’t sue if they know you are aware…
