There are lots of ways to accomplish what you want but only 1 best way. If you have lots of time and persistence, you can take a stab at it yourself. I believe, however, that your credit is at least on the same level of importance as taxes (which most people have professionally completed). I know of a non-profit company that does all the leg work for you and hopes to improve your score 90 points in 90 days. Check out the credit repair link at

Be very wary of them and do not use them at all if possible! You basically have to borrow MORE $$$ to pay back the $$$ you owe. Your best bet is to save one credit card and cut up all the others and close the accounts. Put aside $$$ for rent each month and other monthly payments you MUST make. After that pay the minimum and more if you can on everything. If getting out of debt means you have to eat Food Lion 99cent cereal everyday, do it. Credit repair companies know people are desperate and will exploit them for it. They’re going to make $$$ off of YOU. Better to just pay off what you owe before you borrow more.

There are some terrible scams out there, so investigate whoever you use. I’ve heard that the not-for-profit ones are sometimes better.
A friend of my got tangled up with one that charged outrageous fees. In the beginning, it hurt more than it helped.
